Victorian neighbourhood battery safety guideline

Energy Safe Victoria consulted on a draft safety guideline for neighbourhood batteries

This draft guideline provides information about safety considerations applicable to neighbourhood batteries – also known as community batteries – with a generation capacity of less than 1 megawatt (MW).

The guideline is intended to ensure the safety of people and property. It will help anyone involved with neighbourhood batteries, including:

  • designers
  • installers
  • operators
  • owners.

This guideline includes legal requirements and best practice standards for these installations. It sets our expectations as Victoria’s energy safety regulator.

Submissions on the draft guideline were due by Monday 6 May 2024.

We have taken on board feedback received, which is summarised in the consultation report
