Energy Safe investigates wind turbine fire

Energy Safe Victoria is investigating a fire in a wind turbine at Portland that occurred on Friday 28 June 2024.

Energy Safe investigators have inspected the scene.

The investigation will determine if any breaches of the Electricity Safety Act have occurred.

Wind farms have been operating in Victoria for more than 20 years and there are now 41 farms and about 2500 turbines in the state

While wind turbine fires are rare, public safety is the highest priority and the owners and operators of windfarms must comply with strict energy safety laws and regulations.

In particular they have a general duty under the Electricity Safety Act to ensure the wind farm is designed, constructed, operated, maintained and decommissioned safely.

Energy Safe. Always.
