Supervision of electrical apprentices – Consultation

We sought feedback on draft updated supervision requirements to keep apprentice electricians safe at work. The Decision paper and new Requirements are now available.

Energy Safe has reviewed and updated the Requirements having had regard to submissions received during the consultation period.

These are legal responsibilities for employers, supervisors and apprentice electricians, which will take effect from 1 September 2025. This provides a transition period for industry to understand and implement the changes.

Until that time the existing requirements apply:

Requirements for the effective supervision of apprentice electricians.

Webinars

To assist employers, supervisors and apprentices in understanding the new Requirements we will be hosting Q&A webinars on the following dates:

Roadshow for licensed electrical workers

From July, we will be hosting in-person events around Victoria to speak to licensed electrical workers about a range of topics, including apprentice supervision.

Consultation

Consultation on the draft Requirements was open for feedback from 4 March to 15 April 2024.
